Google Contributor only works inside Google’s silo.

It’s a big silo, but it’s still a silo. We need solutions that work for the individual at scale, across the whole Web. Terms individuals assert, and sites and services agree to (because they’re good terms), can provide that scale.

These were only thinkable before ad and tracking blocking came along. Now, thanks to that leverage, they’re do-able. That’s why we’re pressing forward with them.

There are a number of tools for supporting sites and journalism. Here’s a piece that just showed up today. Optimal is another.
